Yellow sunglass lenses are not nearly as popular as blue, black, or purple. That’s for sure. Hardly anyone wears yellow tinted glasses or sunglasses with yellow lenses. I’m not sure why, but it’s not common. However, for those of us who like to separate ourselves from the crowd – yellow lenses are kind of cool!?
I own one pair of sunglasses with yellow, and that’s the Oakley Flak 2.0 XL Prizm model. It’s great for working outside, cause it’s tough and blocks just enough sunlight that I don’t have to struggle. Would I wear it daily? Yes. But, I still prefer my other sunglasses haha. The yellow lenses look great with a black tee IMO – but that’s just my style.
Anyways, let’s start talking about the benefits of yellow lenses and why some people prefer them. There are some interesting reasons, but it’s not complex so I’ll keep this as short as possible.
1. Enhanced Depth Perception
When it comes to eyewear, yellow-tinted lenses offer a distinct advantage in terms of enhanced depth perception. Basically, your standard sunglasses tend to darken your surroundings, potentially compromising your ability to accurately judge distances and perceive depth. However, the yellow-tinted lenses are like a precision tool for your eyes.
Indoors, they bring in a gentle, warming filter that boosts clarity without causing discomfort. It’s akin to having a subtle touch of sunlight right in your field of vision. Stepping outside with these lenses is a game-changer. Suddenly, everything appears more vivid and sharply defined. Colors pop, and objects seem to gain an extra dimension.
This improved depth perception is a substantial benefit. It means you can gauge distances more accurately, which has practical applications in various scenarios – from driving to engaging in sports, or simply navigating your environment with confidence.
So, in essence, yellow-tinted glasses grant you a heightened visual experience, whether you’re inside or outside. They’re like a precision instrument that fine-tunes your perception, adding a layer of precision to your everyday activities. It’s a small tweak that can make a big difference.
2. Blocks UV Rays
One of the standout benefits of sporting yellow-tinted glasses is their ability to shield your eyes from harmful UV rays. You see, these lenses aren’t just a fashion statement – they’re like a personal bodyguard for your peepers! But really, aren’t most sunglasses these days?
These lenses have a special coating that filters out a significant portion of both UVA and UVB rays. It’s like having a built-in force field that keeps your eyes safe without compromising your vision. So, not only are you getting enhanced depth perception and a sharper view of the world, you’re also getting an added layer of protection against those sneaky UV rays.
Keep in mind that every pair of sunglasses is different, and some may work more effectively than others. In general, yellow-tinted glasses and yellow lenses are good at blocking UVA and UVB rays.

3. Great For Indoor Office or Gaming
A buddy of mine was throwing a LAN party (bunch of gamers playing in same building over a Local Area Network) and I noticed like 3 of his friends wearing sunglasses. At first, I was like WTH we’re inside, why?
Well, yellow lenses do a wonderful job at filtering the blue light and since they work so good inside – the games often look even better with them on! I don’t personally play games much anymore, this was years ago. However, I did find it interesting and from now on I always recommend yellow lenses for those who want a pair to wear inside.
Programmers and silicon valley tech types are often seen wearing yellow-tinted glasses inside. If it’s good enough for them, then it must be good enough for most office/computer work.
